In the Easter season we find that one or two areas are the focus of our attention. Some people focus on Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross. Other thoughts race past the pain that he suffered on our behalf, and focus on the hope of His resurrection.
But to fully understand Christ’s finished work on the cross, we must consider both areas combined as they are what changed history, Christian life, and life and eternity. On good Friday, nothing about it seemed good at the time, in fact what happened that day was horrifically torturous. Jesus was betrayed by one of His disciples, put through an unfair trial under Roman Governor Pontius Pilate.

Our, Lord Jesus, was beaten and whipped, a crown of thorns was mockingly placed on His head, and Jesus was forced to carry a heavy cross. Jesus carried the cross, endured our burden and our agony, He died for us, He took on our sin and payed the price on the cross. The Bible declares that we have all sinned, and sin separates us from God (Romans 3:23). Scripture also says that the punishment for sin is death (Rom 6:23). But Jesus’ death and resurrection made a way for us to be reconciled to God and inherit eternal life. So, friends, the death and resurrection of Jesus, is the finished work of Jesus Christ. Give praises to God our Father who sent His only son to save us from sin and death. Glory Hallelujah! to Jesus Christ the son of God.

Father God, as we recall the death of Your son Jesus, and celebrate His resurrection from death, we give honour and glory to Your holy name. Father, we thank You for Your love. We give thanks for salvation, for grace and mercy, and Your patient kindness. We thank You for the gift of life in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah! Amen.
