Prayer And Fasting
The book of Mark chapter 9 tells us of a man who had a son who was deaf and dumb, who the disciples could not heal. But, when he was taken to Jesus, Jesus named the spirit and cast him out of the young man. Jesus’ disciples went to him privately and asked Him why they could not do the same, thank God for Jesus who told them that the only way to cast out these determined spirits is by prayer accompanied by fasting. I believe that life has many examples just like these that need to have this very teaching applied.
There are people with problems that go on and on with no solution in sight, Jesus said “this kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting” This fast God has chosen. Our own solutions won’t work. In these situations prayer is good but on its own it is not enough to focus the whole of one’s self to remove a determined spirit. The spirit of sickness, demonic possession, the spirit of lack, and other spirits come with the forces of hell to destroy, and discourage.
We as children of God need to wield the weapons of our warfare to pull them down. The enemy is going into our camp to disrupt our service to God, but we must remember that at creation’s end, God gave power and dominion into our hands, over the works of His hands. For those who after the fall received Jesus, to them power was restored, Matt 10, and this is how we can achieve great service through Christ to please God.
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, help thou my unbelief. Help us all to walk in faith, and believe, so that we become pleasing in Your sight, heal the sick, cast out evil spirits, encourage, and strengthen one another through prayer and fasting. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
