Read 1John 1:7-10 for context.

“My little children these things write I unto you that you sin not, and if any man sin we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1Joh 2:1).

“For there is one mediator between man and God, the man Christ Jesus” (1Tim 2:5). “That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all whom are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under the first covenant” (Heb 9:15 NLT). “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Heb 7:25).

John wrote to God’s people addressing them as little children, a loving address with a request that they sin not. He encouraged the people, explaining that they have an advocate with God, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is our go between so that if we sin, Christ is able to plea for us because Christ is able to save us from our sins. He is our mediator as He is constantly pleading for us. When Christ sat down beside the Father it was not because He had finished, He is always asking the Father to pardon us. Christ finished the work on earth but the heavenly work, on our behalf, will continue until He returns, as we believe He will return.

I pray to God in Jesus’ name, that whosoever comes to him through Christ will be healed, forgiven, reconciled and restored, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for us all. I pray through Christ for us all, that we sin not, but rather, we win souls for Christ so that they might be saved. Amen.
